The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Electoral Commission (EC), has announced a series of security measures for collation centres nationwide as the electoral process transitions to the collation of results phase.

Voter turnout was generally low in a number of polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, reports Augustine Cobba-Biney. 

The problem was mainly attributed to the lack of enthusiasm among voters in the Constituency.

Polling stations across most parts of Ghana have officially closed, marking the end of a tense and closely monitored election day.

The Vice Presidential Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, has called on party supporters to stay vigilant as the sorting and counting of votes continues nationwide.

In a statement on her X (formerly Twitter) account, Prof. Opoku Agyemang expressed confidence that change is coming, highlighting the smooth progress of the 2024 electoral process.

The Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Kathleen Addy has praised the peaceful and orderly voting process observed in the ongoing elections.

In an interview with Graphic Online at the Akumaje Mantse Palace 1 polling station in James Town, she highlighted the positive impact of introducing multiple voting points in areas with large voter populations. 

Independent Presidential Candidate and Leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, has encouraged voters who have not yet cast their vote to come out in their numbers to vote and do so for the movement of change. 

The Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Benjamin Bano-Bio has urged all officials of the Commission to continue to perform their duties professionally.

He said the Commission would not hesitate to take action against any official who compromises the integrity of the process.

Polling stations in five regions delayed in opening the polls for voters to exercise their franchise, the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has disclosed. 

The regions — Northern, Oti, North East, Greater and Eastern — had their polling stations opening after 7:15 a.m. 

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on its members and the entire electorate to go out in their numbers and vote for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

It said, so far, the turn out of the elections had been very encouraging, but it was still asking those  who were yet to vote to start moving towards their respective polling stations and cast their vote.

The Campaign Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has cautioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to refrain from perpetrating illegalities to manipulate the elections.

He said the NDC knew they had already lost the elections because there was no way the good people of Ghana were going to vote for them and so they were resorting to illegalities.

The NPP parliamentary candidate for Ningo Prampram, Michael Tetteh Eku, has indicated that he is satisfied with the turnout of voters in the constituency, stressing that the numbers so far were encouraging and fell in line with the strategy of his party to secure victory. 

Generally, there seems to be a low turnout at most polling centres in the Tema West Constituency, where 134,611 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for the immediate prosecution of an electoral officer, Joseph Dery, who was arrested at the Kintampo South Constituency for issuing out about 15 ballot papers without the image of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Ghanaians on Saturday, December 7, 2024 voted to elected who will lead the country from 2025 and parliamentarians for 276 constituencies.
