Is form guide the ultimate in Hearts-Kotoko encounters? (II)

This is the concluding part of the article, the first of which was published in last Friday’s edition of the Graphic Sports

This was the period Asante Kotoko were unmatched on the local scene. They won the league title thrice in a row. However, they were unable to translate their form into continental success as they suffered elimination from the CAF Champions League on all the three occasions they were involved in Africa inter-club’s competitions.

The Porcupine Warriors won the league in the 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons and climaxed it with their first domestic double of League and FA Cup in the 2013-14 season. During this period, Kotoko went undefeated in six (6) league games against Hearts of Oak (W2, D4).

Despite the fact that form guide has been the trump card, there are instances determination on the part of one side enabled them to produce a big surprise.

Monday’s super clash between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak may have captured most of the attention but tomorrow’s clash between Premier League leaders, Wa All Stars and FA Cup holders, Medeama SC at the T&A Park  at Tarkwa promises to be full of fireworks.

For Wa All Stars, it is turning out to be a memorable season, having started on a flying note, with a 3-1 thrashing of Hearts in Accra to jump to the top of the league log. But that position faces a tough test against a Medeama side whose participation in the CAF Confederation Cup appears to be weighing heavily on their domestic performance.
