Sam Yeboah ready for Kotoko game

Accra Hearts of Oak striker, Samuel Yeboah, has returned to full action ahead of their top Premier League clash with arch rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The 29-year-old Yeboah has recovered fully from the thigh injury he sustained during the Hearts- WA All Stars Premier League game at the Accra Stadium which sidelined him for three weeks.

Ashgold fail to rake windfail after massive patronage of game against Hearts

The massive patronage of last Sunday’s top clash between Ashgold and Accra Hearts of Oak failed to yield the expected financial windfall.

According to Kudjoe Fianoo, Chief Executive of Ashgold, a little over GH¢11,000 was realised as net revenue from the game, conceding that his club could have creamed more revenue from the match.

“We failed to take advantage of a golden opportunity to make some big money for our club considering the massive patronage of the game.

We'll win Women’s League: Predict Hasaacas, Ampem Darkoa coaches

Coaches of the two finalists of last season's National Women's League (NWL) Hasaacas Ladies and Ampem Darkoa, are predicting a win of the competition after their respective teams maintained their winning ways in the Match Day Two fixtures.

Defending champions, Hasaacas Ladies thrashed Samaria Ladies 4-0 at the ATTC Park, while Ampem Darkoa also won 3-1 away against Ashtown Ladies to lead the pack in their respective zones with more goals and six points.

A student of the Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) Takoradi, Ebenezer Famiyeh, has emerged the best male performer at the Sixth Mission Open Junior Taekwondo Championship at the Accra Stadium with Mercy Arti grabbing the female version of the award.

Salifu Tokani and Fati Baidoo won the male and female most promising athletes last Saturday.  

In other competition, Mariam Max-Vey won the female under- 68kg with Abigail Larbi, Ellen Boateng and Elizabeth Boatema following in that order.

Hearts move camp to Akosombo

Accra Hearts of Oak players and technical handlers  last Tuesday left the capital city to the serene atmosphere at Akosombo for camping ahead of their titanic clash on Monday with arch-rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko in an effort to giver the players an unwavering concentration during their preparation.

Last Tuesday morning, Coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi took his players through their paces at the Ajax Park at Legon after which they moved to Akosombo for camping but trained at nearby town of Kpong.

Players of Kumasi Asante Kotoko have been charged by former Black Stars striker, Anthony Yeboah, to develop a tough mental attitude to ensure success in their careers, as well as Monday’s big game with Hearts of Oak at the Accra Stadium.

The former Leeds United goal poacher, who also excelled in Frankfurt and Hamburg FC in Germany, urged Kotoko players to be resolute psychologically, since football demands mental toughness, aside physical fitness.

The Ghana national swimming team is set to make history in August when the nation makes her first appearance at the Olympic Games, courtesy the Universality Placement system.

It will be the first time Ghana will participate in swimming at the Olympics since making her debut in 1952 (64 years ago).

Hearts financially sound than ever — Nyaho

A board member of Accra Hearts of Oak, Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, is rubbishing suggestions that the club is in dire financial situation and cannot not pay their players. 

He argued that the Phobians were in a better financial situation than any other club in the country because of the support of their board chairman, Togb Afede XIV. 

"At the moment the club is financially sound so the question of the boys (players) not being paid is all rubbish", Dr Tamakloe stressed in an interview with the Graphic Sports last Monday.

Olympic Games hopeful, Abeiku Gyekye Jackson, dominated the GH Dolphins Invitational Age Categorised Swimming Competition at the Burma Camp Sports Complex pool in Accra last Saturday, winning three events.

The GH Dolphins captain won the 50 metres butterfly event ( Boys 15+), the 100 metres freestyle (Boys 15+) and 50 metres freestyle (Boys 15+).

Minister to crack the whip over Stadium Maintenance

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has vowed to crack the whip on officials of the National Sports Authority (NSA) in a bid to ensure that the newly-constructed Cape Coast Stadium does not suffer a similar fate as other dilapidated national stadia.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports and the NSA have suffered criticisms for allowing the four stadia (Sekondi Stadium, Essipon,  Baba Yara Stadium, Accra Stadium and the Tamale Sports Stadium) constructed to host AFCON 2008 to waste away because of a poor maintenance programme.
