Dreams FC to bounce back. Assures coach Akonnor

Dreams FC head coach, Charles Kwabla Akonnor, has given an assurance that his team will bounce back strongly in the Premier League and hinted also that he would reshuffle the playing body when they face Sekondi Hasaacas at the Dawu Park on Sunday.

According to the former Ghana international, following the team’s two straight losses to Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea a fortnight ago, it became absolutely necessary to make changes in the team to return Dreams FC to winning ways.

Queens star to miss African Cup

 

Former Black Queens captain, Florence Okoe, is relishing the chance of  returning to action for both club and country after a successful knee surgery.

Though she is not expected to return to action until after nine months, which rules her out of national team duty for the 2016 African Women's Championship (AWC) in Cameroun in November, Okoe is optimistic that she would regain her place in the national team once she makes full recovery

Okoe, and two other national team players, Leticia Zipki and Deborah Dussey, returned from South Africa earlier this week after they all underwent surgeries on injured knees.

Agyei wins Carlo King Caddies Golf

A net score of 81 handed Richard Agyei the seniors title in the Carlo King Caddies Golf Championship held last Monday at the Celebrity Golf Course at Sakumono, near Tema.

Agyei shot 44 on the front nine, followed by a 37 on the back nine to win the top prize of GH¢500 and a television set for the tournament reserved for golf caddies who work at the Celebrity Golf Course.

Hearts will find it tough against Kotoko — Sunday

Former coach and skipper of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Ibrahim Sunday, has described the clash between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kotoko at the Accra Sports stadium on Monday as very dicey which can go either way.

“Currently, Hearts are in top shape, so on paper, it could be said that they have the edge over Kotoko, but matches involving the two sides defy form, so it is not easy to predict the outcome of the match until it comes to an end,” Ibrahim Sunday, who was the skipper of Kotoko when they won their first silverware in Africa in 1971, told Daily Graphic during an interview in Accra last Thursday.

Former CHRAJ Commissioner Justice Emile Short and about 300 other golfers will contest honours in this year’s South Africa Freedom Day Open Golf Championship which tees-off on Saturday at the Celebrity Golf Club at Sakumono.

The 18-hole tourney has four categories, including Men's Group A (Handicap 1-14), Men's Group B (Handicap 15 and above), Ladies Group A (Handicap 0-20) and Ladies Group B (Handicap 21-30), and will be used to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of South Africa’s Freedom Day.

Chelsea will fall at Len Clay — New Edubiase captain

Following their unexpected victory over Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium last Saturday, players and officials of New Edubiase United are confident the club would add Brekum Chelsea to their victims when they clash at the Len Clay Sports Stadium this weekend for their 10th week Premier League clash.

New Edubiase captain Ibrahim Samed told the Daily Graphic on Wednesday that the players had been adequately motivated after their victory over Kotoko and had vowed to beat the Berekum lads, who won 3-0 against Dreams FC at the Golden City Park last Sunday.

The management of New Edubiase United is on the brink of securing a sponsorship package which will improve the club’s financial position and also propel the club to achieve greater heights locally and internationally.

The deal with Diamond Cement, which is about 85 per cent complete, will not only increase the financial status of the club, but will also enable them strategies and revamp the players and technical team of the club to make it more formidable.  

Briefing the Graphic Sports on the sponsorship, the president of New Edubiase United, Mr. Yakubu Abdul Salam, expressed concern about the lack of sponsorship of the Premier League, saying it had been the bane of poor outputs of Ghanaian teams at the international levels.
